Chuck - good MP

Chuck

The Editor, Sir:

I have been working in the Grants Pen community for more than three years and I am very impressed with the level of management and system of accountability on the part of Delroy Chuck, member of parliament for North East St Andrew.

He demonstrates to us that our political system can work and that there are politicians who are genuinely concerned about their constituents.

Chuck contributes to the development of education in his constituency, through the continuous contribution to different programmes in the New Day School, all the basic schools in the community and the Stella Maris Foundation's programmes. A monthly payment is made to the cyber club in Grants Pen for children of the basic schools to be given the exposure in using the computer.

The community was given a total facelift through the removal of zinc fences and the paving of roads and lanes. Many other structural programmes have been done such as the redesigning of sidewalks and the repairing of a bridge on Grants Pen Drive in the community.

The developments that have taken place in the community were all done by way of consultation with residents before, during and after each project. The help given to the schools is through partnerships formed with the MP and the different stakeholder bodies formed in Grants Pen to ensure accountability.

The MP is reachable, is easy to talk to and very visible in his constituency despite being Speaker of the House. This demonstrates that Cabinet ministers can do what is required of them by the people who have elected them.

Mr Chuck, the community of Grants Pen salutes you.

I am, etc.,
