Buccaneers caught in Nurse's web

Ashley Nurse

A fine spell of spin bowling by Barbadian Ashley Nurse helped Kingston Tigers to first innings points over Trelawny Buccaneers in their two-day Jamaica Super Cricket League clash at Sabina Park yesterday.

Extracting good bounce from a turning pitch, Nurse claimed 5-28 as the Buccaneers, replying to the Tigers' 172, were bowled out for 106.

The Tigers, batting a second time, reached 2-2 when stumps were drawn, with Barbadian Ryan Hinds and former national youth off-spinner Kemar Allen, who both shared the new ball, getting a wicket each.

Moderate total

Earlier, Allen 4-50 and Hinds 2-20 took full advantage of the pitch to dismiss the home team for their moderate total. In-form Grenadian Rawl Lewis scored 55 not out and Chadwick Walton, 26.

"The match is evenly poised. There is going to be an outright result. Someone is going to lose, but I can't say who will. I just hope it is not us," said Terrence Corke, coach of the Tigers.

At Melbourne: The Kangaroos were in a good position to claim first innings points over the Hanover Dolphins. Hanover 224 (Davian Davidson 44, Ziggy Levy 34 retired hurt; Nikita Miller 4-46, Damion Jacobs 2-28). Melbourne 135-3 (Donovan Pagon 40, Damian Henry 34).

Hold the edge

At Chedwin Park: Home team St Catherine Saints hold the edge over Westmoreland Wizards. Scores: St Catherine 290 (Danza Hyatt 104 (8x4, 3x6), Wayne Morgan 64; Myron Wilson 4-61, Nicoy Samuels 2-32). Westmoreland 95-3 (Derval Green 42, Andre Fletcher 40 not out; Andre Russell 2-30).

At Kirkvine Oval: Manchester Lions, after dismissing St Elizabeth Warriors for 80 on the stroke of lunch, did not start their reply until 4:45 because of rain. Scores: St Elizabeth 80 (David Powell 6-22, Krishmar Santokie 3-8). Manchester 12-0.
