So you thought that our editors for justice were just that? You're dead wrong!
Get your Gleaner on Monday and see for yourself. In the meantime, meet our guest editor-in-chief, Dr Carolyn Gomes.
She is the executive director of the non-profit, non-violent, non-partisan citizens' rights action group, Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ), whose primary focus is advocacy against state abuse of rights.
In 2001, JFJ took on, as a secondary focus, access to information and since then, Carolyn Gomes has spearheaded JFJ's activities around the issue, working extensively with the Carter Center.
This work has included lobbying and advocacy around the development of an Access to Information Act, conducting public-education activities and media campaigns, and monitoring and reporting on implementation.
A medical doctor, Carolyn Gomes has participated in a number of local and international activities and seminars and presented extensively in Jamaica and internationally on issues of human rights in Jamaica and on access to information. She has also written numerous articles and papers on these topics for local and international publication.
For her work, she has received a number of local and international awards, including the 2008 United Nations Human Rights Award.
She is the wife of Dr Richard Gomes and a mother of four.
