Eight arrested for sending 'drug money' to the island

Police arrested eight people yesterday suspected of sending drugs money to Jamaica in an international money laundering network, according to British media reports.

The eight were arrested during raids on five addresses in London and Cambridge, the police said.

Police added that the operation followed a lengthy investigation led by the Metropolitan Police's Operation Trident, which tackles gun crime in London's black community.

It said they had been working closely with police in Jamaica and Miami. Detectives began their probe after discovering a criminal network sending regular sums of cash from drug dealing in south London to associates in Jamaica.
