Sporting Central ease tension
Richard Bryan, Gleaner Writer

Sporting Central defeated St Georges 2-0 at Brancourt yesterday to make the task of saving relegation much easier ahead of their final game against Village in Trelawny next Sunday.

The victory pushed the Clarendon team to 39 points, leaving them the objective of just avoiding defeat in their remaining away encoutner to clutch a place in next season's contest.

Following 66 frustrating minutes for the handful of spectators who tourned up in a drizzle to watch the game, substitute Andre Allen latched on to a pass effected by midfielder Jevaughn Watson to fire past Randal Huie and give Sporting Central breathing space.

Their top goalscorer, Alanzo Adlam, then eased the tension, beating three defenders to score in the 90th minute.

Crucial win

Sporting manager Brandon Murray empahasised the importance of yesterday's crucial win.

"It will certainly let us sleep better and puts us in a better mental state to play Village," he told The Gleaner.

St Georges, who at 43 points were already safe from the drop, played with largely one player upfront - Damion Harwood - and he got the clearest of opportunities to score but moffed a one-on-one run at the national Under-20 custodian, Andre Blake.

The Portland team's coach, Geoffrey Maxwell, seemed uncomfortable throughout and drove off immediately after the match, mumbling frustrations.

However, manager Cedric Ormsby told The Gleaner of the consolation he saw in the performance.

"We created chances but did not score. At least we did better than last season," he said.
