Beres, Fyah the toast of IRAWMA

Singers Beres Hammond and Lutan Fyah won two awards at the May 3 International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA), held at the York College Performing Arts Center in New York.

Hammond took home the Bob Marley Award for Entertainer of the Year and Songwriter of the Year. Fyah was recognised as the Most Promising Entertainer and also won the Spiritual Service Through Music award.

Other key categories and winners were: Mavado (Recording Artiste of the Year); Tarrus Riley (Best Male Vocalist); Etana (Best CD, Strong One); Serani (Best New Entertainer); Cocoa Tea (Best Song in Tribute to Barack Obama, Barack Obama).

The IRAWMA was first staged by Chicago-based Jamaican music personality Ephraim Martin in 1982. The annual event has been held in major cities in the United States, such as Fort Lauderdale, New Orleans and Atlanta.
