I find it strange that our prime minister is calling for a tighter bond between countries within the region if we are to deal with the global financial crisis. I tell you why. Some months ago it was announced that Air Jamaica would no longer fly to any of the major Caribbean destinations directly from Jamaica.
Many persons would be able to travel to Barbados and then connect to the other islands at a reasonable fares, but this is no more as now Caribbean integration has to be fostered at the high cost of travelling on Caribbean Airlines into Barbados out of Kingston. What we are left with is a removal of the opportunities to interact, partner with, and foster Caribbean integration.
So I do not buy for one moment the sentiments now being banded about that we are serious about working together as a region. How could that be true when you can't even travel from one place to another.
I'm wondering if this Caribbean integration and free movement thing is a big farce?
I am, etc.,
