Killings rock rural community
Sheena Gayle, Gleaner Writer

Western Bureau:

ALMOST A day after a murder-suicide occurred in the quiet farming district of Cockburn Pen, Trelawny, the community has again been rocked by a triple murder, leaving the residents gripped with fear.

Residents found the bullet-riddled bodies of Kevon Brissett, 17, Marlon Virgo, 20, and Romeo Shirley, 21, Thursday night, in the same house in which Nicola Brown was killed.

On Wednesday, Nyron Simpson, an electrician, chopped his common-law wife, Nicola Brown, to death and then killed himself.

The police have not linked the two incidents. Nicola Brown's brother, Romeo Shirley, was among those who were killed on Thursday.

The Gleaner was reliably informed that a note with the word 'rapeiss' - misspelt for 'rapist' - was left behind at the crime scene of the three victims.

Meanwhile, in the midst of tragedy, the two children of Nicola Brown and Nyron Simpson have found refuge in the counsel of pastor Lynval Henry of the Congregation of Yahweh in Clark's Town, Trelawny, following the death of their parents.

The children, ages eight and six, are now orphans following the murder-suicide involving their parents on Wednesday.

According to pastor Henry, "The children are trying their best to cope given the circumstances of their parents' death. They are talking and playing with other children but they get very emotional when relatives or residents recount the tragedy in their presence."

He said the children were placed in his care temporarily and would be taken by other relatives before the end of the week.

The children, who attend Clark's Town Primary School, were taken to pastor Henry by the police who asked that they receive counselling.
