Both the Pick-9 and Super-6 start anew at Caymanas Park tomorrow, as the horses for the most part ran true to form in the mud last Saturday.
The Pick-9, which embraces races three to 11, offers the guaranteed minimum $1 million, while the Super-6 starts with the minimum $750,000. The Super-6 will be conducted from race six to 11 on the pre-Mother's Day programme.
In observance of Mothers' Day, Caymanas Track Limited (CTL) has named each of the 11 races after prominent women in racing, including Ruth Hussey, Yvonne Mattis, Hillis Nunes and the island's lone female trainer, Margaret Parchment.
Super-6
We look at the Super-6 which gets under way with a 1200-metre race for native and imported three-year-olds (non-winners of two), to be contested by 10 starters.
Despite the presence of the recent winner FEE FI FOE and other useful three-year-olds such as YOJIMBO, SATAN'S RULE and BABY JAZZ, the race should be won by the well-advanced debutante PLEASANT PRINCESS, an American bred 3-y-o filly from the stables of the legendary trainer A.E. 'Billy' Williams.
PLEASANT PRINCESS (Andre Martin up) has been burning up the track at exercise in preparation for this race and could well prove a cut above the present opposition. Also expected to run well is the Anthony Nunes-trained American 3-y-o debutante BELOW THE WAIST, who has looked sharp in her preparation.
Next on the programme is a high claiming race over the round five course in which the down in class horses MAGDALA, FREE FALL, GRACE MARIE, YAMASHITA'S GOLD and DANCING SAM are the main hopefuls in a field of 10.
Post position
The speedy MAGDALA will be coming from post position one under title-chasing jockey Dane Nelson and while she will have to be caught, DANCING SAM and GRACE MARIE have more appeal. DANCING SAM, the mount of champion jockey Omar Walker, raced prominently in third to the last furlong in the race won by the unbeaten RACING MACHINE last Saturday and, given the shorter distance, can definitely take the honours.
However, GRACE MARIE with back-to-form Clive Lynch in the saddle looks tempting with only 52.5kg.
Briefly, the lightly raced RIP CURRENT, who showed promise (4th) on her recent debut behind MS. ANGELICA, gets the nod over MYA'S GIRL and RUM DEAL in the eighth race over 1200 metres for maiden three-year-olds, SEA PATROL in the ninth, while 'Horse of the Year' ALSAFRA should be followed in the 10th for the Chairman's Trophy. Then, take the well-prepared SHADOWS ahead of SIR FIN and JAX WILD CARD in the closing race over the straight, the Track Price Plus Dig Out Handicap in which 14 have been declared.
