And so, the former US Ambassador to Jamaica, the oh so charming best dresser and philanthropist, Brenda LaGrange Johnson, will be the recipient of the American Cancer Society Humanitarian Award, come next Tuesday, May 12. The ceremony, set for New York City, will see the American iconic real estate mogul/owner of the Miss Universe beauty pageant, the mega wealthy Donald Trump, scheduled to present the award to her.

And word is, the American Cancer Society will not be the only organisation honouring the New York socialite and political power-player turned diplomat. The buzz out of the American Friends of Jamaica is that, come October 5, the AFJ will be making her their honouree, in what promises to be a fab do, to be hosted at the very hot Plaza Hotel in New York City.

Come next week Saturday, however, Ambassador LaGrange Johnson and hubby J. Howard Johnson will fly down to Florida, to join friend and AFJ International Humanitarian honouree Michelle Rollins, at the Coconut Grove Ritz-Carlton, for the Gala Peacock Ball and investiture ceremony, before flying into Jamaica on Monday the 18th to join AFJ officers in handing over donations from the AFJ for various charities.

Kudos to Ambassador LaGrange Johnson on her deserving recognition as well as to the AFJ for their continuing service to this nation and its people!

Crab feast

And speaking of fab people and causes, my dears, the invitations and tickets are out for the season's most-anticipated annual shindig - The annual fund-raising crab-fest, hosted by Eric 'Busha' Clarke, at his Paradise Park, beachfront estate, in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland. And this year the date for the much-anticipated event is Saturday, May 30. Pumpkins, not even wild horses can keep this scribe away!

Dears, the annual family-oriented party promises to be a bigger and better blast this year, with arrangements now in place to accommodate the many Kingstonians and Montegonians who attended last year's do but are wary of driving over and back.

Luvs, to facilitate those who wish to attend from Kingston and the tourism capital, arrangements have been made with the Knutsford Express to provide shuttle service from Dominica Drive over there in New Kingston; as well as from Pier 1 in Montego Bay, for a really nominal fee for the luxury coach ride to and from the season's most happening do!

Luvs, think a truly resplendent beachfront great house; miles of rolling beach; acres and acres of undulating pastures; a beachfront bonfire; an oversized party bar; picnic-style setting for the family; the run of the property for the party hearty; music; and to crown it all, a buffet with a menu that serves up nothing but crab! Dears, you know we are talking fab like that here and nothing but!

Sweet-things, crab will be prepared in every style, and then some! But the absolute best part of this entire shindig is the fact that those who wish to also get to support some very worthy causes at the same time. Profits from the annual crab-fest are donated to Westmoreland charities!

Beautiful birthday wishes to the beautiful former first lady Mitzy Seaga, who celebrates her birthday tomorrow, May 9.

The lovely Lisa Duggan will celebrate on Sunday the 10.

And former St Andrew, socialite, Kathy Darling, will take birthday honours on the 13th, at her home in South Carolina in the United States, with the buzz being it will be all that and then some!

Belated birthday wishes to the Minister of Sports, Youth and Culture, Babsy Grange, who celebrated hers on the 27th of April.

Belated birthday greetings also to attorney-at-law, the lovely Kathy-Ann Pyke who celebrated on April 24 with a special do, only for two!

And belated greetings to the very charming Millicent Peart, who celebrated her 60th on April 21, but was treated to a swell surprise party on Saturday the 25th, by her daughter Shelly-Ann Peart James and her hubby Zifus James. A shortlist of family and friends toasted the occasion.

And my dears, mothers everywhere will be fêted come Sunday, as the world toasts mothers everywhere. The preferred celebration is the Mother's Day brunch being hosted by the president of Association of Friends And Families Against Substance Abusers, Steve Ashley, and his fab wife Betty, at their Norbrook Drive residence and fabulous Orchid Gardens. Funds will be raised to assist with the establishment of the offices for the drug court, as well as a counselling centre for substance abusers.

Guests will have the opportunity to win Digicel mobile phones; a weekend for a family of four at the lovely Starfish Trelawny family resort, compliments of SuperClubs; VIP tickets to Pulse Fashionweek in June; as well as dinner for two at the exciting Cafe Aubergine in the Courtyard, at the Market Place, on Constant Spring Road.

Sweet-things, y'all know this here scribe wouldn't miss an opportunity like this one for anything, especially as it an opportunity to browse the award-winning gardens.
