Ministry works out measures to stop violence at Ascot
Minister of Education Andrew Holness says improvements would be made at Ascot High School to prevent the recurrence of violence at the institution.

He was speaking to journalists on Thursday at the school following a meeting he had with teachers to discuss the transformation process.

The school, which is located in Portmore, St Catherine, was the latest victim of school violence after a teacher was stabbed in the arm by a student.

Holness said the school was at a stage where it was grappling with the incident and at the same time in the process of transforming.

Holness said he would also ensure that a school resource officer was placed at the school along with a fence for protection.

The minister said the school already had a programme to assist in behaviour management but he would be placing more guidance counselling resources to ensure there was no repeat of the incident.

The student involved is still being sought by the police.
