Pearce again for Village
Jeff Pearce continues to throw his Digicel Premier League team, Village United, a lifeline in their fight to stave off relegation.

For the second time in their last three matches, the central defender turned forward scored a double to hand the Trelawny team a 2-1 victory - this time over Portland team, St Georges Sports Club - in their match at Lynch Park, Buff Bay, yesterday.

Pearce scored in the 40th and 80th minutes against St Georges, which had taken the lead at the third minute through Marvin Grant.

Two matches ago in the last match of the third round, Pearce had scored a double against the same Portland team for a 2-1 win. At that point, Village were bottom of the standings.

Three-match winning streak

Along with Sunday's 1-0 win at Meadhaven, Village have now charted a three-match winning streak that has lifted them to 11th in the 12-team competition. They are now one point below Meadhaven and three behind Sporting Central (36).

Meadhaven's bid to maintain a three-point gap was foiled cruelly at the death in a 2-2 draw against Sporting Central Academy at Brancourt in Clarendon yesterday.

Star midfielder Keammar Daley scored twice (23rd, 71st) to hand Meadhaven the lead, but Carl Wiggan scored at the 89th minute to hand the Clarendon team a share of the points. Jevaughn Watson (56th) had earlier equalised for Sporting Central.

Meadhaven's Kirk Duckworth was ejected at the 59th minute.

With three rounds remaining, Rivoli United virtually secured their spot for next season with a 2-1 win at Spanish Town Prison Oval that pushed Westmoreland's Reno closer to the drop.

Top marksman Devon Hodges extended his tally to 19 goals this season by opening the scoring for the St Catherine team in the third minute, while Valentine Gardener added a second at the 40th.

Gary McIntosh (81st) scored late for Reno, whose Omar Dallas got a red card at the 75th.
