Ocho Rios' latest tourist attraction, Mystic Mountain Rain Forest, opened its Beijing 2008 Olympics exhibition and rededicated its athletics pavilion to the Jamaican athletes who blazed the track at last summer's Games.
The occasion also saw the presentation of Olympic memorabilia for use in the exhibition, courtesy of Olympian Byron LaBeach, which included a cup with the signatures of the 1952 4x100 gold medal-winning team comprising Arthur Wint, Les Laing, Herb McKenley and George Rhoden.
A framed photograph of the quartet was also handed over.
Amazing strides
Olympic 100m gold medallist, Shelly-Ann Fraser, presented the cup to chairman of Mystic Mountain, Horace Clarke, after which Sports Minister Olivia 'Babsy' Grange presented the photograph to Michael Drakulich, general manager of the attraction.
Grange opened the exhibition later on Sunday. It features highlights from the Beijing Olympics, including the triple gold medal and world record runs from Usain Bolt and his teammates in the 4x100 metres relay.
In her address, Grange said the performance of the Jamaica team to the 2008 Beijing Olympics signified the amazing strides that Jamaica has made in sports over the years.
She said the display underscores the fact that Jamaica is a country with a rich history in culture and sports, and congratulated Clarke and Drakulich on the move.
"Gentlemen, you have demonstrated vision, you have demonstrated creativity and a belief in our country and our heritage," Grange said.
The occasion was presented in association with Digicel Business, with chief executive officer, Mark Linehan, acknowledging the great achievements of the Olympians at last year's Games.
"This great achievement makes us proud to be associated with Jamaica," Linehan said.
Popular attraction
The exhibition adds to the offerings of the popular attraction, which already included bobsleighing - a tribute to the Jamaica team that participated in the 1988 Winter Olympics.
