Three years after he made his debut as a rookie at the Dover Raceway, St Ann, Brian Foster is now ready to take on the 'big boys' in the top classes.

His performance at the 'arnival of Speed meet held two weeks ago highlighted his improvement and maturity and he has been shortlisted as one of the few drivers in the lower ranks who are expected to upset the applecart on May 25, when the best of the region clash in the first leg of the Caribbean Drivers' Championship.

Although he might not have been among those selected to represent Jamaica in the regional cham-pionship, the 41-year-old Foster, who won the IP 45 Class championship two years ago, is hoping to spring some surprises.

"My aim is to win one of the championships every year, then step up in class and race against people like Doug Gore, David Summerbell and Peter 'Bull' Thompson," the Dunoon High School graduate disclosed in an interview with The Gleaner.

At the Easter weekend meet, he won three races with his Sherwin Williams/Vector Engineering 1993 Honda Civic car.

Foster is one of five drivers competing out of the Horse P Crew camp. His teammates include Peter Jaggan, Victor Handal, Christopher Wright and Wayne Wallace.

The Caribbean Drivers' Cham-pionship is one of the biggest motoring events in the region and when it unfolds, Dover is once again expected to be crammed with thousands of diehard motorsport fans.

Large crowds

Last month's meet attracted at least 12,000 fans, some of whom took about 90 minutes to exit the compound when the event concluded.

Executive member of the Jamaica Race Drivers' Club (JRDC), David Summerbell, gave the assurance that patrons will not have that experience again.

"We have since widened and resurfaced the roadway leading to the track, plus we acquired more land space for additional parking and at the end of the meet there will be more security personnel addressing the flow of traffic," said Summerbell.

Reports are that the Jamaican team should be selected from Doug Gore, Christopher Campbell, Peter 'Bull' Thompson, Guy Fraser, Gary Williams and Summerbell.
