Vengeance on Edwards' mind

Edwards

LONDON, England (CMC):

Despite arriving just 72 hours before the opening Test against England, West Indies pacer Fidel Edwards said he was eagerly looking forward to the series and the prospect of exacting revenge for the tourists' drubbing in the last series here two years ago.

"It feels really good to be back. I'm always happy to be among my teammates and I'm ready and looking forward to the Lord's Test match and what is to follow," the 27-year-old said.

"I have been waiting to return to England. The last time we played a Test series here we were beaten, so I would like to help the team to turn around the results from the last tour."

Edwards arrived on Sunday after representing the Deccan Chargers in the Indian Premier League in South Africa for the last few weeks.

It meant he played no role in the squad's warm-up matches, where West Indies struggled to acclimatise to the conditions and failed to make any impression. But the right-armer said he felt in good nick.

Looking for good results

"I have been bowling pretty well - the ball has been coming out the way I like - so I will be looking for good results," said Edwards, who has taken 115 wickets in 41 Tests over a six-year career.

"I am feeling strong and I'm very keen to get on the field. This is Test cricket and I am always looking forward to stepping on the field in Test matches."

Edwards, along with fast bowler Jerome Taylor, will spearhead the West Indies attack as the visitors seek to defend the Wisden Trophy they captured last month in the Caribbean.

That 1-0 victory in the five-Test series was the first time the Windies had beaten England in a series and Edwards said he believed the tourists could repeat this achievement in the two-Test rubber.

"Our main aim is to play good cricket and once we do that, everything else will naturally fall into place. We are looking for good results and continue to improve as a team," Edwards said.

The second Test has been carded for Chester-le-Street from May 14-18.
