The St Catherine North police have seized two illegal guns in 24 hours and taken two men into custody.
The latest find occurred on a site operated by construction company Bouygues Travaux Publics near Faith's Pen, bordering St Ann parish, on Sunday.
According to Detective Deputy Superintendent of Police Derrick Champagnie, law enforcement personnel went to investigate a slew of crimes stretching from Linstead to Faith's Pen.
The operation was carried out about noon on a site operated by Bouygues, a French company, which is conducting work on Highway 2000.
The police said a tractor operator with a bag slung over his shoulder raised suspicion. He was accosted and searched and a MAC-11 submachine gun, along with 24 live rounds, reportedly seized.
Not yet charged
The man, whose name has been withheld by the police, has been taken into custody. He has not yet been charged.
"We will be doing all we can to keep down crime in the area that we police and this man figured prominently in a number of incidents under our investigations.'' remarked Champagnie.
In an unrelated incident, 18-year-old Sean Cox is now facing charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and shooting with intent.
Cox was allegedly one of two men who attempted to rob a trailer along the Bog Walk gorge in St Catherine on May 2.
When the driver refused to give them money or the 1,000 bags of cement he was conveying, Cox reportedly fired shots in the cab of the truck. A tussle with the would-be robbers caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, which crashed into the Rio Cobre.
Cox suffered injuries while his accomplice, Lloyd Anthony Donegal, was crushed to death. The driver was unhurt.
The police recovered a .38 pistol, along with four live rounds, from the crash site.
