Police probe alleged suicide
Nadisha Hunter, Gleaner Writer

In less than a month, the police have again been called to investigate another alleged suicide at the Kingston Waterfront.

An unidentified man who is believed to be in his early 70s was fished from the water by the Marine Police at about 9:40 a.m. on Friday.

The incident occurred only two weeks after a woman who was reportedly mentally challenged jumped to her death at the location.

According to Detective Sergeant Cecil Smythe of the City Centre Police Station, the victim, said to be of unsound mind was allegedly lying on a wall, next to the water, when persons close by heard a splash.

An eyewitness told The Gleaner that he was shocked when the man leapt into the water.

The police were called and the body taken from the water.

The City Centre police reported that yesterday's incident brings to six the number of persons who have allegedly committed suicide at the waterfront in Kingston since the start of the year.
