Motorists in downtown Kingston told Saturday Life how they will be altering their driving habits to cope with the $8.75 per litre tax imposed by the Government.

Marlon Harriott

I am planning to park the car some of the days and ride my bicycle to work. I will be going to fewer places, and when it's a short distance, I am going to walk. All this will have to be done because I won't get an increase.

Sophia Walker

I will be walking short distances and sometimes take a taxi. As for work, driving every day is definitely not a task I will be doing because I have to take the toll so I canŐt add nothing more to my budget.

Donna Barrett

My job requires that I travel a lot but I will be cutting down on the number of persons I deal with per day so that I can cut down on the amount of travelling. Also, my parents are living in Westmoreland and I am planning to change my monthly visit to once every two months.

Michael McNab

I will be adjusting my driving style to cope and in order to do that I will adhere to some amount of discipline. I will be planning my journey before I start out so that I can find the easiest route. Also, I will be walking more, which I have started because I park my car at a point and I am walking the rest of the journey.

Phillip Gordon

The gas increase has put stress on me because I can't buy no more gas than what I used to buy so that means I will have to do less driving and do more walking.
