  • Free health cae from 'Beyond the Horizon'

    MONTEGO BAY, St James:

Hundreds of adults and children from Lottery, and surrounding communities in St James recently benefited from three days of free health care, under a joint initiative of the Ministry of Health and the United States military.

'Beyond the Horizon' was carried out by the United States Southern Command, and included assistance as well as construction and renovation projects, designed to promote cooperation between the US and Jamaica.

The health clinic, operated at the Lottery All Age School from April 21 to 23, formed part of a 10-day sojourn in St James by members of the United States Southern Command medical team.

Simultaneously, similar free health clinics were held at the Albion Primary and Junior High School in Montego Bay, and at Retrieve All Age School.

  • Immunisation Week launched in Manchester

    MANDEVILLE, Manchester:

As it seeks to increase awareness of the importance of immunisation, the Manchester Health Department launched Immunisation Week on April 24.

The launch involved a promotional march through Mandeville, and a brief ceremony held at the park.

Senior public health nurse for the parish, Dalcie Stevenson, told JIS News that the event was to ensure that parents are reminded of their responsibilities under the law to get their children immunised.

"We will be going to different communities for the week, where the entire parish will be covered through house visits (and other events). And it is our resolve to reach as many children in the 0-7 age group," she outlined.
