The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Right Reverend Rowan Williams, is scheduled to arrive in the island for his first official visit this afternoon.
Williams is expected to arrive at the Norman Manley International Airport approximately 3:35 p.m.
The archbishop, who is the head of the worldwide family of 80 million Anglican and Episcopal members, is in Jamaica to preside over the 14th meeting of the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC). The event takes place from May 2-12 at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston.
Some 150 delegates, including laity and clergy from 164 nations, will participate in the meetings.
The ACC meets every three years and its present policy is to meet in different parts of the world. This is the council's second meeting in the Caribbean since delegates gathered for the third ACC meeting in Trinidad in 1976.
