Disappointed with Portia
The Editor, Sir:

As a Jamaican living abroad, I am very disappointed with Portia Simpson Miller who is complaining about the new taxes. How can any country survive without charging taxes?

All citizens who wish for good schools, roads, health care and all the necessities that help a country to be progressive should pay taxes. I reside in the United States which is one of the riches countries in the world but we have to pay taxes in order for the country to survive.

Jamaica is not rich, so someone has to pay for good roads and the other services. The world is a different place and if we want good services we have to pay for it. We cannot burden the Government because they have no money.

I am, etc.,
