Baked products may rise again
The nation's bakers are hinting that the price of their products could increase soon as a result of the raft of tax measures announced by the Government last week, including a more than 100 per cent increase of the special-consumption tax on fuel.

Speaking with The Gleaner yesterday, president of the Bakers' Association of Jamaica, Gerry Chambers, said the association was yet to meet to properly analyse how the various tax impositions would increase their costs of production, but noted that the $8.75 increase on gas was troubling.

Included are butane and propane, which are used to fuel the bakers' ovens. Their transportation costs will also be going up due to the tax increase which took effect yesterday.
