Davies tackles Budget today

Davies

LAST YEAR, Opposition Spokesman on Finance Dr Omar Davies said the Bruce Golding administration's budget was not credible. This year, the nation awaits the former finance minister's response to the Government's $555.7-billion budget, which contains an $18 billion tax package.

Today, Davies will pronounce on the credibility of the 18-month-old administration's budget, which has already drawn sharp criticism from some sector groups and financial analysts.

In particular, Davies is expected to put on the table alternative measures that would have the effect of cushioning the impact of the current economic recession on Jamaicans who are most vulnerable.

Shaw, in his presentation last Tuesday, said he would not concentrate on the past. He spent little time this year lambasting the People's National Party (PNP) for its performance while in office.

The PNP has already voiced objections to a number of measures being introduced by the Government to finance the Budget.

Davies will make his presentation in the debate about 2 p.m. this afternoon.
