ST JOHN'S, Antigua (CMC):
Jamaica and West Indies batting ace Stafanie Taylor clutched the Most Valuable Player award, and Guyana's Shermain Campbell emphatically took batting honours at the 2009 West Indies Under-19 women's cricket championship.
Taylor expertly led Jamaica to championship honours during the tournament in St Lucia earlier this month and Campbell's solid batting steered Guyana to the final.
Sturdy performance
Taylor registered a sturdy all-round performance for Jamaica to defeat Guyana by four wickets in the final.
She (4-30) led the bowling and struck a blistering half century (70) for Jamaica, in spite of a top score of 74 from Campbell.
In four games, Campbell scored 315 runs - including an unbeaten 134 against St Lucia - at an average of 105, to be the tournament's most prolific scorer.
Strong in the field
Taylor, a two-time West Indies Players Association Women's Player of the Year, was also strong in the field, taking most catches jointly with Keandra Calixte of St Lucia.
Top bowler was Jamaican medium pacer Neisha-Ann Waisome, who snared 11 wickets in her three games, including six for 16 against Dominica.
