Stop the whining
The Editor, Sir:

Since the news of the hijacking at the airport in Montego Bay on Sunday night, I read where many people are saying this is a black eye for Jamaica. I think these people should stop talking rubbish.

Many people, and at least the more intelligent ones, realise the day and age we live in and would just be more concerned about what corrective actions that must be taken.

This one incident will not stop well-thinking people from coming to Jamaica for vacation, visits to family members, or to do business. If that were the case they would have stopped travelling to New York City, Egypt, Israel, India, and other places around the world which have experienced and suffered similar incidents.

Be realistic

People need to be realistic and live within the context of the dangerous world we are in today, and stop the hand wringing and whining about damage to image or tourist industry.

Every system will be tested and some will fail. It is with these failures that you are able to improve and make the necessary changes. To be honest, I take my cue from the comments of the Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper who said it is not uncommon for these kinds of incidents to happen.

I am, etc.,

Dennis Johnson
