Hinds helps Buccaneers ambush Saints

Hinds

Trelawny Buccaneers' investment in Barbadian Ryan Hinds has started to bear fruit after the left-hander crafted a century to guide them to first-innings honours over defending champions St Catherine Saints in their Jamaica Cricket Association Super League clash at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium yesterday.

Final day

In what was the feature match of the first round, the Buccaneers, behind 128 from Hinds, were 286-6 when stumps were drawn on yesterday's second and final day, this in reply to 281 made by the Saints.

Hinds, who claimed 3-86 with his leg-spin when the Saints batted, got valuable support from out-of-favour national batsman Lorenzo Ingram, 62, as the Buccaneers, Melbourne Kangaroos, St Elizabeth Warriors, and Kingston Tigers moved to the top of the standings after first-innings success.

The Kangaroos, who resumed on 150-3 in reply to Westmoreland Wanderers 227 went on to pile up 363-9. Donovan Pagon, who was 69 not out overnight, went on to make 141.

Leg-spinning all-rounder, Damion Jacobs, who grabbed 7-70 when the Wanderers fielded, also got a century, 105, as the home team took advantage of a flat-batting track.

Westmoreland, batting a second time, reached 122-3 with Jacobs snaring 2-41 for match figures of 9-110.

At Sabina Park, where Manchester Lions resumed on 23 without loss in chase of the Tiger's first-innings score of 309, were blown away for 154 despite Zeniffe Fowler's 62.

Barbadian pacer Ashley Nurse, 5-46, and left-arm spinner Paul Harrison, 5-55, did most damage for the Tigers.

Lions feared much better

Forced to follow on the Lions feared much better at 158-1 with Fowler, demonstrating form, hitting 97, and Maurice Kepple an unbeaten 52.

In the day's other match, St Elizabeth Warrior's off-spinner Howard Powell with 6-35 and leg-spinner Alton Beckford, 3-58, combined to dismiss Hanover Dolphins for 152, this in reply to their first-innings total of 208.

Brenton Parchment then made 47 as the Warriors declared their second innings at 120-7 in chase of an outright win. Hanover then reached 1-0 when rain forced an end to the match at 3:51 p.m.
