Meadhaven United impressed with a 2-0 win over Rivoli United in the Digicel Premier League at the Constant Spring Oval yesterday.

Striker Kenneil Hyde put Meadhaven United in the lead in the 14th minute as the home team took charge early.

However, midway and late in the half, Rivoli looked the better team. A spectacular effort from Luke Soares in the dying minutes of the first half almost pulled the visitors level. Then Devon Hodges got the ball in the back of the net but his effort was ruled offside.

Eleven minutes in the second half, Keammar Daley gave Meadhaven a 2-0 lead. In the 56th minute, Daley dribbled into the Rivoli 18-yard box before unleashing a scorcher past the goalkeeper.

Further trouble

Rivoli ran into further trouble two minutes from time when Fabian Gordon was sent off after he was shown a second yellow card for dissent. He was earlier cautioned for rough play.

Alrick Clarke, coach of Meadhaven, said the players equipped themselves well, worked hard and ensured that they won.

"I hope this will inspire them to go further," Clarke said. "I know the passing game wasn't there today. We knew it was going to be a physical game because Rivoli are a physical team but we are a notch above them technically," he said.

"We withstood the physical aspects and put away the chances that we received," he added.
