Brandon King, a first-timer on Jamaica's successful Under-15 team, says teamwork and discipline contributed a great deal to them retaining the title in the Clico West Indies Under-15 cricket tournament, which ended in Barbados on Sunday.
King, who batted at number three, also said the team was determined to win again, despite having only three players from last year's squad.
"If feels really, really good (to win)," King said at the Norman Manley International Airport yesterday, when the team returned.
"Heading into the tournament we really trained hard and it is good to know that it has paid off," added King.
Jamaica, one of the favourites heading into the tournament, won after compiling four wins and a loss in the six-team tournament that lasted a week.
Trinidad and Tobago, who finished second, ended with the same number of points as Jamaica, but Jamaica had won their match-up and that was used as the tie-breaker.
"The tournament was very challenging, but we worked together as a team and were disciplined and determined. For example, after we lost a match we knew that we had to defeat the Windwards to win and everybody pulled together," he added.
The Jamaicans also grabbed a number of top prizes during the awards ceremony, with Oshane Walters and Delbert Gayle earning awards for the most runs and best batting average.
Walters scored 160 runs at an average of 40.00, the same as the Leeward Islands' Akeem Saunders, while Gayle scored 154 runs from five innings, including three not outs to end with an average of 77.00.
Trinidad and Tobago spinner Nairon Molilal, who claimed awards for the Most Wickets and Best Bowling Average, was named the Most Valuable Player.
