Something extra

Feast of birds

The early summer months in Jamaica find local hunters out in the bushes catching their allotted daily bags of birds. Some of the birds are consumed throughout the season but many hunters gather their families and friends from all across the island and make a big event of the feast in early spring of the following year. That is just what businessman Johnny Gourzong did at the beautiful Caribatik in Falmouth, Trelawny, last Saturday. Here are some highlights.

Unpleasant 'birds'

1.Some passengers who used Air Jamaica's services at the Miami gateway had mixed feelings when the decision was taken to suspend that service. Many were not very happy with the customer service and hoped some of the more unpleasant 'birds' would be grounded. But wait, some of these persons have reappeared at other gateways and it is certainly not good for business.

Lemonade budgets

2.While the government searches for new revenue streams to satisfy this year's budget, some savvy onlookers are pointing to the burgeoning luxury market in boats and aircraft as one area where bigger taxes could be charged. They argue that it would arrest the ambitions of those with champagne tastes and lemonade budgets and it would also put a little more stress on the wealthy instead of the poor.

Frequent flyer

3.The businessman has been making frequent trips to south Florida lately, and many say he has developed a great liaison with a fabulous woman. Now the wife will understand why she has not been allowed to accompany him in the past few months.

Noise box

4.There are talks that the businessman with deep pockets is seeking to buy an ailing noise box so he can add to his growing number of media toys. Listen for the announcement.
