Eltham pile up 357
Eltham High scored a huge 357 to give themselves a big chance of retaining the urban area ISSA/Grace Shield cricket title, at the end of yesterday's first day of their three-day final against Innswood High at Melbourne Oval.

After losing the toss and asked to take first strike, Eltham piled up the big total, with opener Jervin Gordon getting 68, all-rounder Romeo Parker 58, Kavin Bonner 43 and number 10 batsman Shawn Hedlam 30 not out.

Batting in fading light

Innswood, who had to survive 15 minutes off batting in fading light, were 15 without loss, with captain Oshaine Williams on nine and Marshall Marsh on six.

Leg-spinner Andra Henry took 3-82, off-spinner Marsh 2-26 and left-arm pacer Adrian Cohen 2-44 for Innswood.

"I think we are in a pretty good position. We batted well as a team. We just to need to come out tomorrow (today) and put the balls in the right areas and restrict them. First innings points is our main objective," said Eltham's coach, Oral Simpson.

Innswood's coach, Nieve McNally, said: "The wicket is good and easy to bat on. I think we have the quality batsmen to get the score and I am confident we will. We just need to go out there and apply ourselves."
