'Sey Sup'm' takes a pause
Over the last few months, Sunday nights had quickly become established as a poetry and music night at the Village Blues Bar, Barbican Road, St Andrew. However, the weekly get-together of literary and live music enthusiasts has been off for a few weeks.

It is not a case of being done and over with, though, so much as the organisers, Root Cause, taking the pause that refreshes.

Tentative resstart date

Clement Hamilton of Root Cause told The Gleaner that "our tentative date to restart the season is the 3rd of May 2009. Root Cause makes an assessment of itself and the show production and makes adjustment to whatever it deems necessary to deliver the best poetry products possible".

It is not the first time that an assessment has been made, as Hamilton added "we have changed the show's format and tweaked it several times, based on our own assessment as well as input from our patrons and the poetry fraternity".

And the Seh Sup'm season that ended on March 1 has been encouraging. Hamilton said "the past season of the weekly show itself has given us enough reason to believe that this format can indeed be successful in today's Jamaican entertainment landscape, once it is given the required tools and opportunities to market itself properly to the Jamaican public".

Seh Sup'm has been through changes before, after starting as Seh Sup'm 'Open Mic Edition' at Weekenz, Constant Spring Road, St Andrew, in September 2006. Initially it was staged on Tuesday nights, then in March 2008 was changed to Sundays, with the name being amended to Seh Sup'm Poetry and Live Music.

In September 2008 the event was moved to the Village Blues Bar.
