National Rums Major League

WESTERN BUREAU:

Harmony came from behind to defeat Duanvale 3-1 to take the National Rums of Jamaica Trelawny Major League mid-season final trophy, at the Elliston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth on Sunday.

Harmony started as the favourites, but were shocked into silence when Duanvale scored in the 10th minute, as Vilroy McLaughlin was well placed on the edge of the six-yard box to head a cross from Orlando Grey into the goal.

Despite conceding, Harmony kept a cool head and continued to show confidence in stringing passes together, even in their area. It was therefore no surprise that in the 28th minute the equaliser came, through Derron Miles.

Man-of-the-match Lacon 'Zico' Brissett, sent Harmony ahead in the 55th minute when he climbed above goalkeeper Devaughn Hawthorne, who had misjudged the bouncing ball, to score with a header.

Brissett again figured in Harmony's third goal, five minutes later, when he rocketed a free kick from just outside the penalty box which Hawthorne failed to hold. It rebounded for the very alert Carlington Johnson to score.

Winning coach Gregory Palmer said he knew Duanvale were relying on McLaughlin, therefore, he took him out of the game with close marking. Regarding the future, he is cautiously optimistic.

"We are taking no one lightly and will be going back to the drawing board to work on certain aspects of our game and if we continue as we have been doing, we should take the trophy," Palmer said.
