Despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Santos in the feature match in the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA)/Claro Super League, August Town remain atop the standings.
The Calvert Fitzgerald-coached August Town are now on 36 points, three ahead of second place Cavalier (33), who inched closer by thrashing Liguanea United 4-0 at Winchester Park, St George's College.
Fitzgerald said he felt let down by his team's poor performance in the match that was played on Saturday at the University of the West Indies Bowl.
"I am very disappointed with this result because I thought we should have scored some goals today," said Fitzgerald. "They were down to nine players with 20 minutes to go and we were not able to capitalise on this."
Looking to their next game, the August Town coach said: "I think that we have to make sure that we win our next game because I know that all the other teams in the competition want to catch us and we have to make sure that we continue to win our games."
Pleased coach
Carlton 'Spanner' Dennis, coach of Santos, was pleased with their performance.
"I am satisfied with the performance of my team. I think we showed a lot character because we came out today under adverse conditions, but the players stuck to the task and were able to come away with a point."
Dennis added: "I think that my team needs to start scoring goals because we got some good chances and we didn't make use of them.
"However, I must commend my team because I think that they really played out their hearts today."
The first half was evenly contested with both teams missing clear-cut chances. Nicholas McCreath and Donovan Bernard were guilty of missing for August Town, while Santos' Marvin Morgan got off a shot from close range, but the shot went wide of the target.
August Town squandered number of easy chances in the second half, after Santos were reduced to nine players with 20 minutes remaining in the match. Baris Johnson (65th) and Orane Sutherland (70th) were the players red-carded.
But McCreath, Donovan Bernard and Aphas Bernard were unable to capitalise on easy scoring chances for August Town.

In the match at St George's College, Locksley Thompson scored a brace for Cavalier in the 33rd and 63rd minutes, to guide his team to victory over Liguanea. Kemel Mullings (65th) and David Laylor (80th) were the other scorers for the winners.
In other games, the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), who are in fourth place on 31 points, were held to a 1-1 by Real Mona. Oneil Spence gave the soldiers the lead in the 11th minute, but Jair Gooden equalised for Real Mona in the 50th minute.
