Judymay Mitchell

Judymay Mitchell comes from humble beginnings - a family of eight with struggling, working-class parents. Her mother made many sacrifices and insisted on the best for her children and sought to instil values of excellence, kindness, respect and diligence. Excelling in her studies, Mitchell gained entry to one of the best high schools in St Andrew, Campion College, when she was fast-tracked at the age of 10 by her teachers as a prime candidate to succeed in the then Common Entrance Examination.

She went from there to undertake secretarial studies because financial constraints prevented her from pursuing further academic studies. She financed her education by working and studying at the University of the West Indies' Department of Educational Studies where she earned her first degree in management studies and later read for her master's in business administration at the University of New Orleans.

With her secretarial training, Mitchell started her career in that field. A quick learning aptitude, an ability to adapt, and a penchant for excellence and hard work propelled her from her start at the University of the West Indies to the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica, as executive assistant to the executive director. She then moved on to a group of companies that spanned the media, finance and leisure industries. She was the public relations officer at the new government agency, the South East Regional Health Authority, for a short stint before joining Shell Chemicals Jamaica Limited as business analyst/administrator. She quickly made the switch into sales and export and then, on acquisition of the company by Cool Petroleum Limited, she was promoted to chemicals manager, the position she currently holds.

Mitchell attributes her success to the divine hand of Jesus Christ who ordered her steps from day one by providing people in her life to serve as teachers, mentors and channels that enabled her to achieve all that she has to date. Having recognised the instructive role of these people in her life, she got involved in the youth and hospitality ministries at her church, where she could assist young people in directing their lives along a path that would lead to spiritual and physical success. She has not forgotten her roots and still continues to invest her time and resources in the community where she grew up.

She confesses that without God's help she would not have achieved the milestones she has in her life and encourages all to make Christ the centre of their lives to ensure their ultimate success.
