Flair columnist D-Empress has lived in Africa for over 23 years. She describes herself as an urban nomad interlacing her Jamaican and Vincentian origins with her life experiences of a wide variety of cultures from across the world. She sees no distinction between her life and her work, defining her life mission as a Diaspora community builder and life evolutionist.
Her nomadic lifestyle inspired D-Empress to create REIGN - a Diaspora family network designed to build communities with families of 'enriched heritage'. Featuring the REIGN Matriarch Dialogues and various family activities, the monthly REIGN gatherings have become don't-miss events in Johannesburg, South Africa.
D-Empress coined the term 'enriched heritage' as an affirmation of the cultural prosperity that families of mixed origins develop as they move between spaces and places that they call home.
"So many of the world's problems are created through difference, notions of 'the other' and, ultimately, exclusion. I look at my ancestral history and see a line of African Diaspora pioneers who were probably considered outsiders wherever they lived," says D-Empress.
"In my own life, the communities I have been privileged to live amongst, from the Caribbean to the United Kingdom to Africa, have enriched my soul. As a result, I have so much more to share, affirm and celebrate. It has brought me a deeper understanding and appreciation for life."
D-Empress emphasises that the REIGN Matriarch Dialogues are a critical and rare opportunity for women of younger generations to access the wisdom keys to actively design their future as they drink from the well of wisdom (the Matriarchs).
The REIGN Circle events affirm Diaspora experiences while collectively establishing a cultural legacy for future REIGN generations to come. D-Empress' vision is to build REIGN communities across the globe in a bid to combat xenophobia and cultural imperialism.
