Beverley Anderson-Manley
From her modelling career to broadcasting and now as an author, Beverley Anderson-Manley has always been in the public's eyes.
She is enthusiastic, energetic and a hard worker, especially when it comes to working with women and children's groups. She is Jamaica's former representative to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women and the OAS/CIM - the women's section of the Organisation of American States.
She was active in the Peoples' National Party (PNP) in the 1970s and early 1980s. These days she is the host of the daily radio programme Today With Beverley Anderson-Manley on Hot 102 from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m .
She also coaches and facilitates workshops which further her vision of the transformation of Jamaicans. Last year, she published her first book, Manley Memoirs, and is getting ready to write the second.
Along her path there were stumbling blocks but she overcame them by believing she could be anything she wanted to be.
"I solved these obstacles by participating in experiential workshops conducted by Landmark Education Corporation where I had the opportunity to go within and examine my belief systems, behaviour and, hence, transform myself and my life on an ongoing basis," said Anderson-Manley.
When asked if she felt she has accomplished everything she has set out to do, her answer was "no way".
"I would like to lead a foundation that is devoted to the transformation of individuals, relationships, communities, workplaces, society - in concrete and practical ways."
She said she thinks this is critical in Jamaica at this time, given our history of colonialism and slavery and our search for identity.
