Western Bureau:
Seba United stumbled and second-place Granville soared last weekend as action continued in the 2009 Captain's Bakery Western Super Football League with six second-round games across western Jamaica.
Playing away to mid-table Clarke's Town in a game that they were expected to win, Seba United ran into a determined Clarke's Town outfit which showed them no respect and they stumbled to a 3-2 loss.
Dane Johnson, Oral Cunningham and Romaine Roberts were on target for Clarke's Town, while Delroy Ellis and Wilfred Smith scored for Seba.
Good play
"The team played very well and we are extremely pleased with this result," said Hernie Brown, secretary of the Clarke's Town team. "The players and coaching staff must be commended for the performance."
Despite the defeat, the Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore-coached Seba United still lead the 12-team competition with 41 points, three more than second-place Granville. For their part, Clarke's Town consolidated their mid-table position, sitting in sixth place on 18 points.
In their game against Negril, FC at the Sam Sharpe Teachers' College ground, Granville were quite rampant and turned away the challenge of their opponents 3-1.
Rodney Hines, Davian Thelwell and Damion Reid were the goalscorers as Granville, which once trailed Seba United by nine points, move three points of pulling level.
Good enough
"Second place is good enough for us at this time," said Granville's coach Tracey Reid. "Our plan is to be first when the competition comes to an end."
Wadadah, which have been having a roller-coaster season, held on to third place with a strong performance against Grange Hill, spanking them 5-0 at the Urban Development Corporation playing field in Montego Bay. The win has moved Wadadah up to 35 points, while Grange Hill remain on 19.
