AS STARS of BET's hit reality show Baldwin Hills, life for Gerren Taylor and Moriah Johnson is anything but ordinary.

Gerren is a former model who has done shows in France, Italy and South Africa, working with industry heavyweights such as Tommy Hilfiger, Marc Jacobs, Baby Phat and DKNY. Moriah is the son of a five-time NBA All-Star Marcques Johnson and is making a name as a rising talent in athletics.

But fame does come with its drawbacks. Imagine having cameras taping your every word and it then being broadcasted worldwide, plus having to lead a normal life in the process. Sounds easy, right? Well, you decide.

While relaxing by The Jamaica Pegasus poolside before presenting at last month's Youth View Awards, both give their take on life as reality stars in this very candid Saturday Life interview.

  • On life in the Hills

Saturday Life (SL): The first thing we want to know: Is the show scripted?

Moriah: It's not scripted in the sense that we memorise lines but the situations are set up by the producers. It's not like the cameras follow us around everywhere, it's set to appeal to different situations.

I didn't even know what it was going to be like when we first started filming, it hit me that I'm kind of famous after it started airing.

SL: But on the show, you're depicted as a playboy. Is this true in real life?

Moriah: No, I'm definitely not a playboy or a woman chaser.

Gerren: (laughs) He's not a player, he just falls into situations that makes it seem that way.

SL: What's your reaction when you hear the show being called the 'black' Laguna Beach?

Moriah: It's somewhat true; there is a lot of drama and love triangles like there is on Laguna Beach, but I think that our show serves a different purpose. I think it shows black people in a different light. I mean, we're not all drug dealers or gang members.

Gerren: I've never watched the show but I agree with Moriah and think that it does put a positive light on the African-American community

SL: Your lives have changed since the show aired. What's your take on fame?

Moriah: Fame is overrated, and whoever is chasing after it is wasting their life. I can't see how people value an autograph; it's just ink on a piece of paper. Seek ye first the kingdom of Heaven, not the city of Hollywood!

Gerren: I'm used to it by now, and I get different reactions from different people who I meet every day. Once I was getting food and I saw some girls outside who were gonna 'key' (damage) my car, so I ran outside and they jumped in their car and sped off. It was funny because they watched the show and think I'm stuck-up, but I don't care. That's the point of the show and if I feed into it and fought off everyone who wants to fight me, I'll just be miserable.

  • On relationship

SL: You both were in a relationship together but have since gone your separate ways. Are you still friends?

Gerren: We're good. He's a good friend and I've got his back no matter what.

    (Moriah smiles in agreement.)

SL: Moriah, I read somewhere that you're single. What do you look for in a lady?

Moriah: She has to be cute, not selfish, be committed to being abstinent, humble and be interested in a wide variety of things.

  • On themselves

SL: You were once called 'Baby Naomi' by Oprah. Why did you stop modelling?

Gerren: I didn't stop, I just slowed down, I used to be a size zero but then I got older and jumped to a size four and gained weight when they wanted me to be thinner. I love myself too much to jeopardise my health with drugs or become anorexic.

SL: Gerren, describe your personal style?

Gerren: Hmm, I don't think I have a personal style. What's my style, Moriah?

Moriah: Ugly? (Laughs to himself, Gerren laughs too.)

Gerren: Funny ... (LOL) It's simple, I guess: jeans and a T-shirt, nothing too flashy.

SL: What five words would best describe you?

Moriah: Determined, indecisive, strong, willing, able

Gerren: Hard-working, positive, persistent, loving, dedicated.

  • On Jamaica

SL: Did you have any expectations before coming to Jamaica?

Gerren: I didn't know what to expect, only from what I saw from commercials. It's my first time here. I like it; it's warm and reminds me of South Africa.

Moriah: I thought the first things I'd see would be beaches! The ladies here are real nice. I'm going to marry me a Jamaican woman!
