The Lucozade Blood Drive, spearheaded by GlaxoSmithKline Caribbean Ltd (GSK), recently had its fifth annual staging at Carter Hall, Holy Cross Church. GSK, in fulfilment of its corporate mandate, has been partnering with the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) in the ongoing drive to increase the annual blood collection.
GSK provided transportation to and from Carter Hall for persons as needed and the organisation's team, along with a wide cross section of high-school students and staff members of several institu-tions, turned out in strong support of the drive. Also attending were Lucozade Sport Ambassador, Asafa Powell; Miss Jamaica Universe 2008, April Jackson; entertainers Cezar, Christopher Martin, D Major and One Third.
Registration
The GSK team assisted the Blood bank staff with the streamlining and registration of persons in order to facilitate the preparation process for donating blood. The bank's team consisted of administrative staff, nurses, technical assistants, a doctor and volunteers.
In keeping with the celebration of its fifth consecutive year of partnership with the Blood Bank, GSK specially recognised donors who have consistently supported the drive since inception, as well as those who were repeat donors.
Outside of the GSK staff, the Victoria Mutual Building Society, Half-Way Tree branch, has provided the most consistent donations for the Lucozade Blood Drive, with several persons participating since 2004.
