Get the facts straight first
The Editor, Sir:

I am writing in response to a letter on Tuesday, March 17, headlined 'Carnival prejudice'. I too consider myself a dark-skinned Jamaican and I experience the same thing.

On the opening night, a friend and I went to make payment on our costumes. We were asked for our names and I asked why it was necessary. I was then told that they needed to check the records to verify that I have revelled before. My friend is also a dark-skinned Jamaican. They checked their records and we were allowed to sign up for my usual group as I do this every year.

With everything, there are rules and regulations and I see no issues with abiding by them. I don't see it as prejudice I think it is only to ensure that persons who participate annually be given the opportunity to do so again. To make a statement like that I think is unfair if you did not personally speak to the organisers of the carnival.

I am, etc.,

Terri
