Olympic champion Usain Bolt recorded a wind-assisted 9.93 seconds in his first 100 metres race of the season at yesterday's Lucozade/G.C. Foster Classics in Angels, Spanish Town.

Bolt, who set world records of 9.69 and 19.30 seconds to win the 100m and 200m, respectively, at the Beijing Olympics last August, won with a tailwind of 2.3 metres per second.

He expressed satisfaction with the time, but was quick to make it clear that he is yet to start "any speed work".

Bolt and his training partner, Daniel Bailey of Antigua and Barbuda, hit the line together and were given the same time.

Running from lane four, Bolt, who trailed Bailey for the first half of the race took control at the 60-metre mark while looking to the right at his teammate. He admitted that there was still work to be done at the beginning of his races.

"I still have to work on my start," he said but added: "I am just glad I got through this race injury free."

Bolt had his first 100m for 2008 at the same meet and clocked 10.03.

In the women's sprint, Anastasia Le-Roy of G.C. Foster College, winner of heat two, took top honours in 11.58, ahead of heat one winner Kaymarie Jones of UTech/MVP (12.11).

Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Jermaine Gonzales, Bolt's Racers Track Club team-mate, took the one lap event in a season best 46.02. Ansert White, also of coach Glen Mills' camp, was second in 46.19.

Meanwhile Holmwood Technical's boys (4x800m) and Manchester High's girls (4x800m), along with sprinter Gayon Evans of Edwin, Allen, walked away with the top prizes in the Milo Grand Prix Series.

Holmwood ended the boys' series with 60 points with a hard-fought victory over Bellefield High (46 points).

On the girls' side, Manchester High finished on 58 points, eight ahead of Holmwood (50 points).

In the 400m hurdles open, Sabiel Anderson (51.8) and Yanique Haye (60.99), both of G.C. Foster College, won the men's and women's events, respectively.

Kaydian Jones of St Andrew High (5.63m) and Krisann Water of Excelsior (4.59m) took the girls' classes One and Two long jump events.

Ashinia Miller of Calabar won the boys' Class Two discus with a throw of 47.35m while Holmwood's Shackeisha Miller threw 11.98m to take the girls' shot put open.
