  • TT decider on tomorrow

    The champions in the Jamaica Table Tennis Association's (JTTA)/Northwest Development National club league will be known tomorrow.

    The league culminates with the playing of finals in all divisions - one, two, three and women's.

    However, before the finals, the quarter-finals of Division Three, along with all the semi-finals and finals will be played inside the UTech Auditorium, starting at 10 a.m.

    In the first set of matches, the Division Three quarter-finals, defending champions Highgate United face Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club I from which the winners will play Juici Patties while Jamaica Defence Force and Alpart will battle to challenge Pembroke Hall I in the semi-final matches.

    In the Division Four semi-final match-ups, Highgate United will oppose JDF and UWI face Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club I.

    In Division Two semis, defending champions Pembroke Hall will take on UTech and Hy-Performance will oppose newcomers Bank of Jamaica.

    In Division One semi-finals, last year's beaten finalists Athletico Port Antonio will play against Hy-Performance and UTech will take on defending champions Jamaica Defence Force.

  • Lyssons, Kool Kat battle for title

    Lyssons and Kool Kat will battle this afternoon in the mid-season final of the Captain's Bakery St Thomas Major league.

    In the game set for York Oval, starting at 3 p.m., Kool Kat, who topped the standings, should start as the favourite.

    They ended the first round with 23 points and, along with Prospect, remain the only unbeaten teams in the competition.

    Prospect, who recently fell out of the All Island Flow Knockout competition after being beaten by Holland Bamboo, were edged out of the mid-season final by Lysson United on goal difference.

    Today's final promises to be an exciting game as Kool Kat will try to maintain their dominance over Lyssons, who they defeated 3-0 in the preliminary round.

    The winners of the mid-season final will pocket $12,000 while the losers will get $6,000.

    At the end of the first round the standings are Kool Kat (23 points) lead Lyssons (21), Prospect (21), Springrain (12), Danvers Pen (10), Hillside (eight), Sanstar (eight), Delta Force (eight), Real Morant (six), and Yallahs (five).

    Leading scorer is Dwight Anderson from Kool Kat with seven goals.

    Kareen King and Darrion Patterson from Lyssons are next with four goals each.

  • Ken's Wildflower play Media Invitational 11

    In celebration of Lester 'Ken' Crooks birthday, the Portmore Metropolitan Cricket League will host a cricket match in his honour tomorrow, at the Ken's Wildflower Sports ground, commencing at 10:00 am.

    The match pits a Media All-Star against a Ken Crooks Invitational.

    Ken Crooks is a director of the Portmore Metropolitan Cricket League.

    President of the Portmore Metropolitan Cricket League, Charles Simpson, said the league wants to show its appreciation to Crooks, who has done a lot for cricket in the sunshine city.

    "We are getting together to put on this cricket match in his honour, celebrating his birthday and to say thanks for his contribution over the years by helping to develop cricket in Portmore," Simpson said.

    The teams will play a limited overs game for the Lester Ken Crooks Trophy.

    The teams will be selected from the following:

    Teams: Media X1: Richard Delaphena Captain, Winford Williams, Wayne Lewis, Lennox Aldridge, Orville Higgins, H.G. Helps , Mikhail Francis, Donovan Wilson, Vandeer Rowe, Wayne Billings, Manley Horne, Frank Witter and Anthony Foster.

    Ken's X1: Lenworth Barber captain, Junior Stewart, Delroy Morgan, Mark English, Lloyd Black, Milton Thomas, Courtney Francis, Lester Ken Crooks, Dean Williams, Paul Crooks, Charles Graham, Randal Gibson, Wayne Graham and Junior Connigan.

  • West Portland netball league

    The West Portland Sports Club has added a netball competition to its calendar this year.

    The netball competition, which will see seven teams taking part, serves off tomorrow at Skibo.

    Michael Palmer, chief coordinator, said they have received several requests for such a competition.

    "We have a lot of females in the communities and we want to expose the talent in netball," Palmer said.

    Palmer added that such a competition would also bring exposure to West Portland.

    "Hopefully it will also stimulate the interest of other girls in the communities," he added.

    He called on businesses in the communities to support this venture.

    "Come on board with us so we can develop sport. Our motto is developing sports for the future, so I call on the businesses community to come on board and help us in this regard," added Palmer.

    In the first set of matches tomorrow, Orange tackle Shrewsbury at 1 p.m., which will be followed by Bybrook against Mount Pleasant and Port Antonio Police Youth Club versus Chepstow. All games will be played at Skibo.

    Meanwhile, in the cricket league for Under-19 players, West Portland face Generation at Skibo Oval and St Georges oppose Shrewsbury at Chepstow. Both these matches start at 10:30a.m.

    In Zone Two, Bourban take on Spring Hill at Chepstow at 2 p.m. while Balcare tackle Swift River at 10:30 a.m.

  • CTL Portmore domino

    Unbeaten Eagle View duly made it 16-in-a-row last Sunday in the CTL- sponsored Portmore/St. Catherine domino league with a 300-239 win over Correctional Services in an away match at Prison Oval.

    Eagle View remain the only unbeaten team in the competition, with 64 points from 16 matches - seven clear of closest rivals Fort International, followed by Eradication in third with 53 from 15 matches.

    Tomorrow's big 17th round clash pits Eradication against Eagle View at Gregory Park.

    Results of other matches played last Sunday are as follows: Eradication clipped ISCF 300-299 in an exciting countdown, Caribbean Classic whipped Westchester 300-255, Right Stuff beat Hurricane 300-271, Marlie Mount pipped Old Harbour United 300-299 in a thrilling countdown, Fort International crushed Masterpiece 300-249, Prozz and Connz drubbed New Look 300-224, Ken's Wildflower got by Colours 300-292 and Ackee Pod gained a walkover from High Roller, as did Lime Tree over Garveymeade.

  • Head of State pool tourney

    The fourth all-island ranking Pool tournament is scheduled to be played at the Head Of State Pub, Angels Plaza, Spanish Town, on the weekend of March 21 and 22.

    The eight-ball tourney, which is co-sponsored by Head of State Pool and Gaming Lounge and Sharell's Beauty and Barber Supplies Limited, offers a first prize of $40,000 and trophy, second $20,000 and trophy, third $7,000 and fourth, $3,000.

    Entry fee is $1,500, with $1,200 for early entries on the Friday, and re-entry $1,000. Best female player will receive a cue stick and case donated by Pool Tables and Billiards Supplies Limited.

    The ranking tournaments are designed to rank the top 16 players in the island from a list of 147.

  • Colin Fagan KO on tomorrow

    The finalists in the Colin Fagan-sponsored Portmore Division Two knockout will be decided tomorrow after the playing of semi-final matches at the Passagefort playing field.

    In the opening game of the double-header, Hellshire United tackle Wanderers at 1 pm, while, in the feature match at 3pm Caymanas Gardens Site D challenge Greater Portmore.
