The Editor, Sir:
The following is an open letter to Commissioner of Police Hardley Lewin.
Dear Commissioner:
Once again I have to resort to letter writing relating to the night noise in the area in which I live. Several agreements have been made with the various parties with regard to times and consistency, and with the full knowledge of the Constant Spring and Gordon Town police, yet we have been subjected to sound systems playing every single weekend, sometimes twice and way past the allotted shutdown time of 2 a.m.
The police know
The Gordon Town police obviously know when the parties are being held but never feel it is within their duty to check on them at 2 a.m. Calls to the station only result in lock-offs around 4:30-5 a.m. Apparently, the enforcing of the law is only necessary when there is a complaint.
Blue Mountain Inn, without proper facilities, is used as an event venue, with the full approval of the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation which issues the licences, and the Gordon Town police who neglect to monitor volumes or times. Again, I ask that you please look into the matter.
I am, etc.,
Robin Baston
