NOTE-WORTHY

Thanks for the good news

I have noted that over the past week or so, that The Gleaner has made an effort to publish good news on its front-page. Now I may be late, but I would like to extend commendations to The Gleaner for this initiative.

It is good that a media house recognises that despite all the bad things that happen in Jamaica, there are still good initiatives and good things happening to many persons.

By extension, I would also like to congratulate the persons and organisations featured in these 'good-news' pieces so far. I was, however, particularly impressed with Daniella Henry, the 11-year-old from Balmagie Primary whose letter spurred NCB Foundation to donate to her school's library. Wow!

Keep up the good work!

Foreign power vs Commonwealth country

The dual citizenship issue and the statement by Daryl Vaz about Kenneth Rowe and the PNP's selection is really not a fair comment.

As an intelligent person, Mr Vaz should know better. Dual citizenship with a foreign power was what Mr Vaz had; the USA is a foreign power.

Canada is a Commonwealth country and, as such, is not classed as a foreign power. The head of all British Commonwealth countries is the monarch of Britain, Queen Elizabeth II, who is also head of Jamaica. Hence the position of a governor general representing her here in Jamaica.
