Leaders Harbour View clobber Meadhaven
Keisha Hill, Staff Reporter

Harbour View kept the top spot in the Digicel Premier League with a 3-0 convincing win over hosts Meadhaven United at Constant Spring Complex yesterday.

Harbour View are now on 50 points and continue to share the top spot with Portmore United, who defeated Village 1-0. Meadhaven United remain on 23 and have slipped one place in the standings below Sporting Central Academy, who defeated Rivoli 2-1.

Faced with an arid and difficult surface on which to play, both teams contested a hard, but competitive first half.

In the 46th minute, Harbour View changed gears as Nicholas Beckett replaced Ronny Amaguana.

By the 50th minute, Kavin Bryan, fed a pass by Marcelino Blackburn, opened the scoring for Harbour View. Seven minutes later in the 57th minute, Rohan Williams made a bad pass that created a scoring opportunity for Blackburn, who made full use of the gift to double the lead.

Missed the ball

Reid, who was unmarked on the back post, should have made amends and put Meadhaven back into the game, but he missed the ball played to him by Keammar Daley.

Blackburn made a pass across the goalkeeper to captain Jermaine Hue, who scored in the 71st minute, making it 3-0 in favour of Harbour View.

"We have taken maximum points from three games and have improved in our goalscoring," said Donovan Hayles, assistant coach, Harbour View, of their rapid start to the third round.

"The condition of the field was very poor, very tough and difficult to play on. But the players adapted well and worked hard. I think we would have had a much better game if we had a better surface," he said.

Lijyasu Simms, coach of Meadhaven United, believes his team played a very good game but gave up three soft goals.

"At this stage, if we make mistakes, it will eventually haunt us. We have a young bunch who are very ignorant towards each other and until we can sort that out, we have to take it one step at a time until we get closer to where we want to go," Simms said.
