NAIN, St Elizabeth:
An enthralling day of cricket lies ahead on today's fourth and final day of the ninth round WICB Four-day Regional Championship clash between Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago at the Alpart Sports Club in St Elizabeth.
The visitors, set 371 for victory, closed on 70 without loss, 301 runs shy of what would a memorable come-from-behind win.
The Trinidadians bowled with purpose and thanks to a five-wicket haul from off-spinner Amit Jaggernauth, they restricted Jamaica to 285 in their second innings.
"It's going to be a good game tomorrow (today)," said Jamaica's captain, Tamar Lambert. "I think we are in a better position to win and hopefully, unlike today (yesterday) when we bowled too wide to the openers, we can bowl straighter, put pressure on them and get the wickets needed," he added.
Two years ago at the same venue, the visitors were in a similar position after losing first innings and set a victory target of 320, they achieved the score for the loss of four wickets.
Unbeaten century
Back then, skipper Daren Ganga was the star of the Trinidad innings with an unbeaten century. With a number of their batsmen, including 18-year-old opener Adrian Barath, in good knick, they will be hoping for a similar occurrence.
"Looking at it from here I am confident we can get the target," said Trinidad and Tobago's coach, Kelvin Williams. "It's like the last time where we were in a similar position and pulled it off. The guys are upbeat and are saying we can do it," he explained.
Barath, who played in the 2007 showdown as a 16-year-old and top-scored in the first innings with 58, was 35 not out, having reeled off some classy cover drives, and his partner, Imran Khan, was unbeaten on 31 when stumps were drawn.
Jamaica were put in the relatively strong position by Donovan Pagon and Wavell Hinds, who scored timely half-centuries to pull Jamaica from danger at 92-4 to register another respectable second innings score.
Pagon scored eight fours - half of which raced gracefully through the covers - in making 68, while Hinds made 57.
David Bernard, hitting the ball cleanly, supported the duo best with 43, while first innings centurion Carlton Baugh Jr chipped in with 39, inclusive of three sixes and a four, before he was last man out.
Jaggernauth, who flighted the ball well and got a fair amount of turn, claimed 5-43. He got valuable support from leg-spinner, Khan, who snared 2-49.
