Jamaica will host five countries in the fourth leg of the FEI dressage competition at the Caymanas Estates today, starting at 9 a.m.

In addition to Jamaica, other participating countries are defending champions Bermuda, Haiti, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados and the Cayman Islands.

Equestrian spokesperson, Betty Wates, believes the team has a good chance of winning.

"We have a very good junior team this year and should be right up there. Hyde brings a wealth of experience to the team and I expect him to deliver," she said.

In the children 15 and under category, Jamaica will be represented by Jason Walter, Jonathon Vaz and Shelby Wildish, while Julian Hyde is the lone representative in the 16 and over (adults) category.

national trials

The team was selected following national trials on Saturday, February 21 at the Caymanas Polo Club and Equestrian Centre.

As is customary, two visiting FEI judges, from Colombia and Finland, will preside over the day's activities.

Unlike show jumping, dressage is a discipline marking the accuracy of horse and rider as they perform the required movements. It is performed in an arena 30 by 60 metres. Points are awarded one to 10 for each test (or movement) and these encompass walk, trot and canter.
