Don't quote prices in foreign currency
The Editor, Sir:

I am quite annoyed at the suggestion that prices in our local environment should be quoted in a foreign currency. While I do understand that the United States (US) dollar significantly impacts the cost of most items here, I have a problem with the wilful demise of our own currency.

Our local currency is a symbol of our nationhood. We are an independent nation and should be proud to boast our own currency. I am quite contented to see prices quoted in US dollars when I go overseas but am quite disturbed to experience it here.

law of supply

I believe that the currency is only reflecting what we are as a nation. Its weakness is a simple reflection of what we are doing vis-a-vis other countries of the world and following the simple law of supply and demand. If we have not what other countries want and want what other countries have, the local currency has only one path to take - downwards.

I am, etc.,
