WICB shows support
ST JOHN'S, Antigua (CMC):

In the wake of the horrific attacks in Lahore on Tuesday, the West Indies Cricket Board have sent letters of support to both the Pakistan Cricket Board and Sri Lanka Cricket.

Seven team members and one official of the Sri Lankan side were injured following an attack by armed militants as the team bus made its way to the Gaddafi Stadium for the third day of the second Test against Pakistan.

The assault, which left six policemen dead, has also put the future of cricket in Pakistan in serious doubt.

"On behalf of the West Indies Cricket Board, I send our deepest sympathy at the shocking and dreadful act in Lahore which led to such loss of lives, and left the Cricket World in deep mourning," WICB president Julian Hunte wrote in a letter to the PCB.

"The West Indies Cricket Board stands resolute in support of the Pakistan Cricket Board during these tragic and unprecedented times."

Hunte also offered the SLC the regional board's support and sympathy.

"On behalf of the West Indies Cricket Board, I convey our heartfelt concern at the calamitous events in Lahore, which led to such loss of lives and injury to so many of your cricketers," he wrote.

"My board sends its best wishes for your cricketers' complete recovery and a speedy return to international cricket."
