Harbour View blank Georges
Gareth Davis Sr, Gleaner Writer

A goal in each half by Denzil Watson and Jermaine Hue handed visiting team Harbour View a 2-0 victory over St Georges FC in a Digicel Premier League game at Lynch Park, Buff Bay, yesterday.

In the game completely dominated by Harbour View, Kavin Bryan, Watson, captain Hue and Lovel Palmer made constant inroads in the defence of the home team.

The many attacks finally paid off in the 26th minute from a build up between Hue and Palmer, who found the unmarked Watson on the left flank. The latter then fired a curling left-footer, beating goalkeeper Anthoniel Williams to give his team a 1-0 lead.

The relentless attacks continued right through to the end of the first half and the only thing that prevented Harbour View from going further ahead was Williams' outstanding work.

Free kick

At the start of the second half, Harbour View continued where they left off and in the 48th minute were awarded a free kick at the edge of their opponents' 18-yard box. Hue then fired a left-footer, which curled away from the custodian into the net for a 2-0 lead.

Harbour View continued to control the game and should have added more goals but poor finishing robbed them of a third goal.

Georges were reduced to 10 men in the 62nd minute when their captain, Ricardo Taylor, was ejected after he deliberately ran into Hue and knocked him to the ground.

Bringing some life

Georges' best chance came in the 87th minute when a combination of passes between Damian Reid, Daniel Shaw, Damion Harwood and Omar Henderson found the unmarked Ricardo Watson, whose shot was brilliantly saved with a block by goalkeeper Miller. But Barrington James, who collected the rebound, failed to capitalise.

Waldemar De Oliviera, Harbour's View's technical director, said Harbour View studied the playing style of St Georges and came on a mission to shut them down. The strategy paid off.

Maxwell was very disappointed and mentioned that the team had trained hard the entire week for this game, hoping to bounce back from the 5-0 whipping they got in the first round, but the players failed to follow instructions.

"The next assignment is against Tivcoli, which is a tough one and a couple of changes will have to be made. Some players will be dropped and others will be brought in."
